SHAtter is a Tethered Jailbreak [CONFIRMED]

p0sixninja may be sending a message to tell people that SHAtter is a tethered jailbreak (i.e. you will be required to connect your iOS device to your computer on every reboot).
Someone asked him if SHAtter would jailbreak his girlfriend, p0sixninja answered the following:

yea but you gotta plug her everytime you wanna do it
According to the well-known iPhone hacker Vincet, they are working on doing making the jailbreak untethered but they will not success. Of course, we will keep you informed about any updates. [viaTwitter

BREAKING: PlayStation 3 has been Jailbroken Using Apple iPhone and iPod touch [Video]

We previously posted an entire guide on how to Jailbreak the PlayStation 3 with an Android Phone and also that iPhone Dev-Team member MuscleNerd confirmed that the hack would soon be coming to iPhones. Well guess what, it’s here folks! The PSGroove / PSFreedom has been ported over to jailbroken iPhones but the interesting thing is that it is not by the same team which MuscleNerd talked about. It’s actually by a hacker who goes by the name of NTAuthority! and he has used OpeniBoot method which was previously used to port Android on iPhone 2G,3G and iPod touch.
Jailbreak PS3 with iPhone
From what we’ve confirmed, the hack works on three iOS devices only for now, namely: iPodtouch 1G, iPhone EDGE (the first iPhone) and the recently-outdated iPhone 3G. The device must, of course, be jailbroken.
Prerequisites for the hack includes: VMware Player, Ubuntu 10.04, OpeniBoot, WinSCP and OpenSSH. You can catch the guide posted here at PS3Mod. The mod can be seen in action in the videos embedded below:

Oh and all the standard warnings still apply. Hacking or modding your PlayStation 3 (PS3) might result in Sony banning your console from PSN (PlayStation Network). Use it only at your own risk.
[Props to Andrew for the hat tip!]
UPDATE 1: Thanks to microsnakey for posting English version of the guide here.

Cydia Buys Out Rock to Provide One Unified Jailbreak App Store for All !

Two of the biggest non-Apple App Stores – Cydia and Rock.app – with one common goal: to provide users with the best apps for jailbroken iPhonesiPads and iPod touches have decided to merge for the best interest of the community.
After 18 months in the iOS Jailbreak scene Rock of [Rock Your Phone] has been acquired by SaurikIT (makers of Cydia) and over the next few days we will be moving all products/users/licenses over to Cydia Store.
Today, in a post on Cydia, founder Jay ‘Saurik’ Freeman writes:
The key thing to realize is that Intelliborn, the company that brought you such products as IntelliScreen and MyWi, are the same developers who created Rock Your iPhone.
Unfortunately, due to some early miscommunication, rather than us being in a position where we were cooperating on platforms like Cydia, we ended up spending most of our time competing with each other over the course of the last two years.
This was not good: Rock ended up wasting a ton of effort implementing Cydia, while SaurikIT got dragged into an "apps battle" to compete with the Rock exclusives from Intelliborn.
The primary goal of this new world, then, is to put everyone "back on task", with a true collaboration rather than this incessant competition.
While Rock Your Phone CEO/Founder Mario Ciabarra says,
It’s been a fun ride. We set out to change the landscape and I think we were very successful. I think we contributed to attracting more business professionals to the iPhone jailbreak community, and added some great functionality to the platform. The current transaction with Cydia is a great opportunity for us. We’re going to miss some of the excitement, but no reason for anyone to worry. I, personally, will be spending even more time in Intelliborn apps development (both existing and exciting new projects). A few months ago, Jay and I sat down together and we realized, I enjoyed making apps more (and was better at it), while Jay enjoys providing platform functionality. It was a win-win for both groups and we’re excited about the transition.
Folks at “Rock Your Phone” also had some interesting fun facts to share:
  • Number of Developers with apps listed in the Rock Store: 124 (from 19 countries)
  • Unique iOS devices that installed Rock: 4.6 million (from 220 countries/territories) – Wow that is a lot of places!
  • Registered Rock Users: 2+ million
  • Number of App licenses sold: 500,000
  • Users of who took the plunge and bought something: 280,000 (from 185 countries)
  • Users who said screw it and installed a hacked version instead: 38 billion (please send us $1)
  • Total Rock Your Phone Store Sales (March 12th, 2009 – September 2010): $3.3+ million
  • Number of Rock Employees (we are using the word employee loosely here but, hey, it is our company): 9
So what this merger means is that Rock.app will soon be closed. In the next 10 days, all of Rock.apps data will be shifted to Cydia Store which includes your backups, purchased apps and of course all the themes/apps which were previously found in Rock.
Many people preferred Rock.app’s user experience over Cydia’s technical thoroughness, but whatever your choice was for the past 18 months, you’ll now have only one App Store for alljailbroken iOS devices: Cydia!

SHAtter Exploit will Jailbreak All Existing iOS Devices Forever !

We previously broke the news to our respected readers of a low-level bootrom exploit which would enable jailbreaking on iOS 4.1 and beyond with all versions of the iPod touch, iPhone and of course, iPad! This exploit was special in a way because Apple will not be able to patch the exploit with a software update, instead it will require Apple to release entirely revised hardware for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch and we all know that we are at least 6 months away from any hardware revisions.
iPhone 4 Jailbreak and Unlock for Life
Word around the Twittersphere is that the exploit named SHAtter is in the bootrom section, together with Pwnage 2.0 and 24kpwn which will make all existing devices, including the new iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4G pwned for life! It is obviously not publicly available yet, both the Chronic Dev Team and the iPhone Dev Team hackers are hard at work right now trying to get everything ready for full release. Unfortunately though, this jailbreak is reportedly said to be tethered i.e. you will be required to connect your iOS device to your computer on every reboot unlike how untethered userland jailbreak like JailbreakMe worked. iPhone hacker posixninja has confirmed that Geohot also had this exploit dubbed at that time as “pwned4life” before leaving the jailbreak scene.

  2. Go to the Settings icon and select Applications.
  3. Next, click on Manage.

Apple and Steve Jobs Will Be Honored With “Lifetime Achievement in Technology” Award

According to the Beverly Hills Newspaper (The Courier), Steve Jobs (CEO and Co-Founder of Apple
) will be honored with the title of "Lifetime Achievement in Technology" in the Vision Awards at Beverly Hilton on 23rd of this month. This will be the 40th anniversary of this awards ceremony.
However, this is definitely not the first title or award that Steve has taken away. Last year in November, he was also given the "CEO of the Decade" title, and was named as the “World’s Most Valuable CEO” by Barron’s.  And yet again, earlier this year in March 2010, he managed to make space for his name in the annual list of the best CEOs in the world  by Barron’s.
Steve Jobs
In the same month, "The Fortune Survey report" was released that declared Apple’s CEO as the “Smartest CEO”, and their Senior Vice President, Jonathan Ive as the "Smartest Designer" in tech. industry. Apple as company was declared as the “World’s Most Admired Company for 2010”, and that too consecutively for the third year in a row. The report also showed that in the 2010 edition of their annual ranking of "World’s Most Admired Companies", Apple Inc. was at the top of the list for the third year in a row, and by the highest margin ever in the ten-year history, beating other internet Giants like Google and Microsoft.
